香川県に到着！ i'm in kagawa prefecture!
the last prefecture in my pilgrimage. i will be done after a week of relatively relaxed walking. but i relaxed too much today and didnt read the map closely enough to realize there was no stores or restaurants for the first 20km. i walked at a very comfortable pace so i ended up not getting lunch until 3pm- feeling more than a little grumpy at myself. so much for "easy" kagawa i had been looking forward to.
巡礼の最後の県。比較的緩やかなペースで一週間あまりで１番の寺に戻ります。しかし今日は気を緩めすぎた。地図をあまり詳しく見てなかったけど、最初の２０kmは食べ物得るコンビニやレストランや店や機械がなかった。ペースがゆっくりだったので３時までヘトヘトな状態でやっとうどん屋さんを見つけた。香川県もおそるべしです。

だからお遍路は橋の上に棒を使ってはいけませんと言う話です。 therefore pilgrims are not supposed to use their walking sticks on bridges. might wake him up.

今日はずっと一人で歩かなければならないと思いきや just as i was thi nking i was going to walk alone
百人のお遍路団体が現れました。今日一緒に歩いて楽しかったです。 a group of a hundred pilgrims show up. it was fun to walk with them today.

長いトンネル long donkey tunnel
この１・６kmのトンネルは昨日通りました。顔をカバーしながら出来るだけ速く通りました。 yesterday i had to pass through this one-mile tunnel. G covered my face with a towel and walked through just as fast as i could. blech.

アイスクリーン ice clean
高知県内の海ぞえの国道にはこういう半分アイスクリーム半分シャーベットのような食べ物を売ってます。暑い日にはちょうど良いです。ひとつの会社は高知県のおばあさんやおじいちゃん達を雇って、パラソールとアイスクリーンの入れ物を渡しているそうです。
on the national highways in kochi prefecture you can see parasols with big silver drums. here you can buy ice clean- half ice cream and half sherbert. it's perfect for a hot day of walking. apparently one company in kochi temporarily hires grannies and grandpas to do this every summer.

お遍路小屋 pilgrim rest stops
お遍路さんのために建てられた小屋は結構あります。四国の地元の方はお遍路に対してとても親切ですね。 there's actually quite a few of these along the pilgrimage. shiikoku people are good to their pilgrims.

でもやはり高知県ではコンクリートの遍路道が多いですね
but it's mostly concrete on the kochi section of the pilgrim route

view from the cycling road サイクリングロードの眺め
i spent most of the day on a long cycling road. i think it is the old coastal highway. like this photo some parts were shaded and had nice views but a lot of it was unshaded, had no view and reflected the sun rather well. at least it was only 29 to 30 degrees today. back to 32 degrees tomorrow.

i've been seeing these signs. one wonders what pirate food would be like and why is it so widespread in kochi prefecture?
この数日間何回も「海賊料理」の看板を見ました。海賊料理ってどういう料理だろう？何で高知県に多いだろう？一生の謎。
